The Gnome is a fine place with a nice patio to go out alone, or with friends. There I got the easy part done. That said it’s not the place it was a few years ago when E&I ordered I believe quail and elk. We had had quail & elk before, but it was fun to see something unique on a metro menu. It just seemed like a more interesting and exciting meal. They had things most restaurants did not. This time we had a fish fry and pasta which you might find in nearly every restaurant for the next five miles. But again, our food was fine, just not something to write home about.

I am reminded of a dog show I attended about ten years ago. I was with the Vizsla Guru who I personally named. What else would you call a Vizsla breeder, a child of the 60s that had a ponytail and spoke of the Tao? We stood ringside as two great Vizsla specimens began their track around the ring. I looked at the Guru and said I’ll take dog 1, he said I agree he is a great looking dog, but the win will go to dog 2.

Around and around the ring they went 2,3,4 times. I turned to the Guru and said what are they doing? He said the judge has the same problems we do. They were both great dogs. He is going to run them around the ring until he can find a reason give the win to dog two. And guess what happened? Never bet against a guru.

So, what does that vignette have to do with the Gnome? There is nothing wrong with the Gnome, but it no longer has quail or elk to put it a little ahead to take first place. Sure, we will return some day, but a block away is La Grolla, the first restaurant we went to after Covid and they are special to us and always have unique offerings on their menu.

Try the Gnome it’s fine.
